Why The CB Insights’ Newsletter Is Killing It

Key takeaways from the CB Insights’ newsletter

  • Catch the readers’ attention right at the opening. Write an original title and add a catchy photo inviting people to scroll down.
  • Don’t make it too serious. Fun is always the best. Many newsletters are really boring… CB Insights catch the readers’ attention sharing great insights the fun way. I always have a great time reading their newsletter and that’s why I keep opening it everyday.
  • Create rythme in your newsletter. Rythme is key to avoid being boring. The CB Insights’ newsletter is really good at alternating “fun” content and more serious one. They also create relations between the different parts of the newsletter and share multiple times the same content in a different format.
  • Don’t be too promotional. The main goal of a newsletter is to promote something. However, inserting a ton of links is not the right way to do it. Try to insert your links the smart way, using text-links or image-links.
  • Don’t be shy! Get personal with your readers. Creating a strong relation with your readers is always hard. Anand Sanwal is really good at doing it. His tagline “I love you” at the end of the email is really efficient to create empathy with the readers.
  • Always add a call to action at the end. This is a classic but adding a call to action at the end of the newsletter is a good way to convert your most avid readers.
