Time to use Twitter hashtags properly

Does this #useless #behavior look #familiar to you? If it does, then it is time to do some heavy unfollowing.

I guess this is the day of the year where I kind of want to shout at everybody who annoys me. This time I want to shout at some media – particularly French media – who seems to use hashtags without any sense of efficiency or logic.

Quick reminder on what Twitter hashtags are. They basically are hyperlinks on the Twitter research. That’s it. They are a commodity for users who might want to learn more about a trend, a place, an event, &c. This is also sort of a trick used to be seen a little more, like participating in a conversation about an event, a TV show on air, a #joke or else. This is exactly where it went all crazy bananas.

If somebody clicks on the hashtag, he will see a timeline of tweets containing the same hashtag. So if you are craving for more eyes to read your tweet, that should be the way to go right?

Putting every noun as a hashtag in your tweet only makes it stupid and hard to read. I don’t mind one or two hashtags at the end of a tweet if it is needed. That’s right I said needed. Not whatever works I will throw every hashtag possible in it whatever who cares. I do care. And this should only be found on some trolls’ tweets, not on mainstream media’s.

Make your tweets readable, precise and click-friendly

Worst part is this is actually not some simple click-bait. It seems to be just some desperate attempt to appear as a Twitter-focused company and it ruins every single tweet published this way.

Seriously, who will want to search about #video, #social or even worse: #Richard. I am not kidding: #Richard. Like this is a thing. Like some guys will really want to search for this. Get the hell out of there dude. If this is the Orange CEO you are trying to talk about, at least use his first name too. #StephaneRichard. This might have some sense. Except it would also look ugly in your tweet.

Make your tweet readable, precise and click-friendly. Do not make it awful to read and full of nonsense otherwise I will unfollow you. And so will other people. So much for the follower craving.
