Glenna, I had to comment before reading the end of the article.
I did realize it was divided in pros and cons. If I may underline something, you are using a lot of words with a negative connotation which is source of the doubts you may have.

I’m not sure if you have ever heard about neurosciences such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
It would be a great read for you. Tony Robbins is the flagship of the movement even tho he does not really practice it.
To make it short I could give you an exercice.

Instead of:

She’s still young and finding her place in the world. She desperately needs somebody to teach her right from wrong and boost her self-esteem.

Transform it in:

She’s still young and finding her place in the world. She “really” needs somebody to teach her “how to do the right thing” and boost her self-esteem.

It is totally the same meaning, but by thinking about only positive words, you are training your mind and brain to be more open to positivity.

If you are taking the time to write this post, you are already the best mom ever.

Trust in yourself as much as she and I trust in you.

With love.
Nick
