Before embarking on this course on coursera, where we are discussing how we learn, I always considered this outside of myself.

Having studied psychology first I have studied the likes of Piaget and Vygotsky and their theories on behaviour and learning. Then in teaching I was able to see and maybe relate some of this theory within the children I was observing.

Then I truly explored as many styles to learning and behaviour within my classroom as I was trying to reach all my children. I gave them opportunity to listen to me give them direct instruction, then I allowed them chance to watch or listen (videos or songs) then I gave them chance to explore, to practice and to experience different concepts and content and at the end of my journey (or year) with them most of my scholars were successful.

Now I sit going through this course trying to dissect and figure out how, out of the many styles or ways of learning do I learn best. Now this has taken me some time to sort through but, the way I learn has definitely evolved over time. I use to learn by memorizing The information I needed. I did not necessarily understand the content or concepts I just regurgitated them. Only later in life when I started experiencing these concepts or started being actively involved in discussions, watched videos or lived it, did I actually start truly understanding information a had memorized years earlier.

Now I tackle new information by knowing the theory first, I have to at least read the theory but then I need to practice it, watch it or hear it through discussions, videos or actually living through the experience of it. Therefore I find my learning to rather be a process and that I am always learning everyday.
