Gary Wilson was a known science fraud. His sole article was recommended for retraction by the COPE ethics board, including for failure to admit he was a paid, anti-porn advocate.

His only talk TEDx placed a warning for fraud. He threatened to kill the scientists and therapists who tried to correct his disinformation:

He threatened to kill the family after losing a lawsuit to them to have a website critical of his eliminated from the web, which he then used hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal threats to continue to go after the family after he lost:

Most importantly to your point, he falsified his credentials constantly. When reporters called attention to it, he threatened them too:
