Migraine triggering don’ts. According to this person who gets them.

I’ve been getting migraines since I was eleven. As a teenager, my parents thought I was faking it and didn’t believe my “headaches” (they used air quotes). If I stopped doing everything on this list, life would suck. But thanks to Imitrex, yoga, acupuncture and my husband, they are not as bad as they could be.

  1. Don’t be a woman. (Hormones are a bitch)
  2. Don’t get drunk. Especially off of beer or cheap wine. Or sugary cheap drinks. Or just anything cheap.
  3. Don’t go on a roller coaster. Especially don’t spend the day on them at an amusement park.
  4. DON’T. SKIP. A. MEAL.
  5. Don’t stop drinking coffee or drink it later than you normally do.
  6. Don’t cry.
  7. Don’t binge watch TV.
  8. Don’t eat anything that has MSG in it.
  9. Don’t sleep longer than you normally sleep.
  10. Don’t sleep on a pillow that puts your neck at a different angle than usual.
  11. Don’t work out like a maniac after you’ve been lazy for weeks.
  12. Don’t go to the chiropractor. Especially if you haven’t been going regularly.
  13. Don’t tell a massage therapist you need them to focus on your neck. Especially if they aren’t a certified massage therapist. Especially if it’s a deep tissue massage.
  14. Don’t let anything get thrown at your head.
  15. Don’t get stressed out.
  16. Don’t stare at a computer screen all day.
  17. Don’t decide you’re going to have great posture all of a sudden.
  18. Don’t sit at a desk for an extended amount of time that’s not ergonomically correct.
  19. Don’t drive along a tree lined highway at sunrise/set making the light flicker.
  20. Don’t change your elevation.
  21. Don’t get dehydrated especially after a long day in the sun.
  22. Don’t be genetically predisposed to migraines.
