Awesome article! I was born in ’83 so I’m one of the “older Millenials,” but I still feel ya. People think our generation is full of spoiled, entitled brats just because that’s the kind of personality that gets the most expose and hype. I didn’t get a red cent from my parents for college- actually, I was darn lucky my grandpa bought me my college textbooks so that I wouldn’t have to use precious financial aid dollars which could have gone for tuition! I could have gotten basically a full scholarship from my state’s DVR (Department of Vocational Rehab) to a state college because of my Asperger’s Syndrome, but that would have been a sensory nightmare (did I mention how out of touch people at the DVR seem to be with what it’s actually like to live with a disability and what the needs of people with disabilities actually are?), so I had to pony up myself for a private, smaller university with a campus size I could actually cope with without having daily panic attacks.
