When I moved to Taiwan a couple months ago, I came with little savings. My money went by so fast because of the initial start-up costs when moving somewhere new. The jobs here pay monthly, so it was going to be a long 30 days before I saw a nice paycheck. Luckily, I had already established other [modest] income sources before moving. Since the USD goes far in Taiwan, it gave me a financial cushion for that struggle month.

I’m naturally really good at making a small amount of money last a long time, but like you stated in your article, you don’t want to resort to getting the second-best quality for things you value the most like going to the gym.
