  • Publication rights.
  • Design rights.

All property rights that imply value can be sold or given. Owning the work does not mean you own the rights for that work!!!

  • IPR Law from 1842/Statute of Anne.
  • Copyright, design & patents act 1998.
  • Berne Convention 1886–1971.
  • Digital Economy act 2010/13.

Copyright does not cover:

  • Ideas/ thoughts/plans.
  • Work created as part of normal employment.
  • Facts.
  • Anything already copyrighted.

Copyright is automatically assigned but you can use the copyright symbol on your work. You should create line & IPTC fields. Gives owner the right to control: what media it’s on and how/ where it’s used.

Things to think about:

  • Creative commons.
  • Plymouth students of IPR.
  • What’s the going rate/base rate: getting you thinking and gives you a starting point?

Invoicing: In pairs we went through all the things we needed for an invoice and then at the end of the discussion we though as a whole group and drew up an example of what an invoice should look like and what it should contain.
