Life in Our Quiet German Village
There is a sense of community, quiet and safety here
Greeting the day here in Germany, our life moves at a different pace than when we lived in America. It could be perhaps the answer to my own longing for simplicity, or the natural way that life flows here. It’s hard to tell at times.
We are blessed to live in a beautiful little German town, with a population of around 1000. You get to know people when you go out, taking kids to after-school activities, talking in the bakery or at local events.
Yesterday, I went to an appointment with a new doctor, and when he saw that we live in the same town, he drew a picture showing where his house is in relation to mine. In the US, no one would have taken the time, with appointments piled on top of each other. Neither would a professional have wanted you to know where they live.
It still feels strange to me, telling new people how we live directly behind the church, and giving the name of our neighbor so they know which house is ours.
People on our street have chickens and goats. Across the river there are year-long campsites where people bike on trails. There is farmland not far away and you can see animals of all sorts grazing throughout the year.
