3 Keys to a Healthy Mind

As a young adult in today’s society it is harder than ever to be happy and blissful. With modern technology we are engulfed by ever changing news — some of which we can’t even trust — and the constantly changing opinions of our peers. In our pocket we hold an entire world of information that can challenge our personal thoughts and beliefs in ways we didn’t even imagine possible. Lets explore 3 simple ways to stay happy and sane in this crazy world we live in.
Unplug
One way to stay free from the world and keep your mind is to allow time to think for yourself. One of the main problems is that we are constantly overwhelmed and never have time to contemplate things for ourselves. If we take a second away from phones and computers to just think about the greater things in life we allow our mind to relax and destress. It is during this time that we not only free ourselves from the stresses of the digital world, but we also have greater thoughts. These thoughts on a higher plane could be a solution to a problem and thus alleviating more stress when we inevitably “plug back in.”
Exercise
It is proven that taking care of the body is a great way to take care of the mind as well. We know when we are sick that we are obviously in a more stressful situation. No one likes to have to deal with exams, but dealing with exams while throwing up is ten times worse! Now apply that to being more than just not sick when we exercise we can become more comfortable in our own skin. As we gain self confidence through fitness we are able to focus on the more important things in life rather than what others think about me. Thus allowing us to be mentally more sound.
Sleep
I cannot stress this one enough. When I am tired I am grouchy and that not only puts a strain on my relations with others, it makes me upset with myself. That is not a good place to be in if I want to be mentally happy and fit. There are also studies that link sleep to overall health. Without proper sleep our body can’t function at full capacity and that includes the brain. So stop staying up late and reading articles! Get some sleep!
