If you don’t already know, a Dramedy is a hybrid genre of both Drama and Comedy. I picked this specifically because it’s an odd, paradoxical combination, but regardless makes for an amazing method of storytelling.

No specific order… because I love all of them equally (except for the first one, that’s my favorite)

1.The Perks of Being A Wallflower

Mainly known for it’s coming of age- esque manner, this movie in its core is a Dramedy mainly because it revolves both around the psychological illness the main character faces and the fun and hilarious moments faced during your high school days

Men, Women, and Children

Another Dramedy, this movie is about a series of captured “depressions” by different people, a used-to-be all star football player turns homebody,a once adventurous couple, cheating on each other, etc. Underneath all the Drama however, there are parts that make you laugh, and think otherwise, making it very enjoyable

The Spectacular Now

A wonderful story, this movie originates from a book, mainly about a rebellious party-goer who falls in love with a girl who makes him see things differently. Not a romance as much as it is him (the main character) finding himself. Of course, sarcastic and laid back, the main character also make you laugh undoubtably.

Her

A divorced man in search for something exciting , this Dramedy makes you question too many things; however, succeeds in implementing goofy and awkwardly hilarious scenes

The Way Way Back

A young boy, angry at his parent’s divorce confronts the terrible man his mother is currently with. This movie not only speaks about blind love but announces a young voice. Although the dramatic, the comedy seen mainly through this film lies with the young boy’s laid back boss/ water park manger.

Stuck in Love

A family of writers: A father desperately in love with his ex-wife, a daughter too cynical to look beyond the disappointments in life, and a son hopelessly love struck by a drug addict; this movie is all drama. However, I watched it like 47388291 times just because it allows you to feel a reality to the story line, mainly for it’s sarcastic script and genuine interpretations of ‘hard times’

About Time

A family with a gene only given to males… the ability to travel in time..? Yes. This movie portrays the ups and downs of a young man, Tim, who wants to get a girlfriend, wants a family, wants to live. A true Dramedy

(500) Days of Summer

About a young man finding the “right” girl, this movie graciously tells the story of love. With all its drama and comedy this movie truly is an excellent candidate.

Flipped

As romantic as it might seem, the key feature to this movie is its drama between two main characters. Written as a book, this movie shows two narratives in one, the girl’s perspective and the boy’s as they go through their ups and downs. Hilarious none the less in the when both interact with one another.

Silver Linings Playbook

The drama between these two main characters is seriously too much, the girl being a bit too petty and the guy being a bit too clueless, this movie has its outstandingly funny scenes
