Who I am
Who I am as a teacher is always changing and always improving. I am the kind of teacher that tries her best to be able to find the balance of educating her students on a close and trusting relationship. However, I want to still maintain boundaries and not cross the line of trying to be too liked that the students control my classroom. Trying to be the best teacher I can possibly be and trying one day at a time to improve each of the children’s lives to have a better future for them. This goes hand in hand with who I am as a citizen. I believe that I day by day am trying to do something that will improve the world and the people around me one step and one effort at a time. Although I would like to admit that I have a clear view of what is happening around the country today I would be lying. I do find it interesting however find it hard to keep up with the politics and current events around me.
I am an elementary education and sociology major who loving working and helping to improve children’s lives the best she can. I often find myself thinking back to when I was in elementary school and how each and every teacher helped shape who I am today and how I will be as a teacher in the future. Looking back now I did not realize the times that my teachers were integrating social studies and current events within the curriculum without having to have a set hour period for ‘social studies.’ I think that is the way that all teachers should be teaching. Social Studies should not be limited to one single period during the day set aside for it. Instead it should be developed into the curriculum by capitalizing on moments where we can teach the students about current events or things being taught in social studies. This does not mean that we should take away that period set aside for social studies because I think it is important to have that. However, additionally I want to be the teacher that integrates it into the curriculum to help students keep on learning about it.
