Are you a reader of ebooks who loves highlighting passages to reference later?

How would you like to have a reading companion organizing important takeaways for you in the background?

Kindle highlights are well-known, but did you know Google Play Books offers a similar feature? Say hello to Google Drive sync — a hidden helper in your Google Play Books app settings.

Head on over to the Google Play app settings to use it:

  1. Tap Play Books settings.
  2. Navigate to Google Drive sync.
  3. Tell Google Drive sync what folder to save your highlights in and make sure Save your notes, highlights, and bookmarks is turned on.

Turn on Google Drive sync, and the Google Play Books app will create a document in Google Docs with the book cover, title and author information, and all your annotations.

You can even tell it to create a folder in Google Drive for your book highlights. I love how organized and accessible it makes referencing information from ebooks I’ve read.

No more flipping through pages or searching for things you know you read but can’t remember.

(I see you, ebook lover. I know you’ve been there.)

Happy highlighting!
