Avianca’s baggage policy follows the general lines of other major airlines in the sense that the first 1 or 2 checked bags are included (depending on cabin class/destination) and charges are charged for additional pieces above your allowance.

These fees, in addition to those for oversized or overweight baggage, are a bit more complicated and highly dependent on weight and route, as you’ll see in the tables below.

Avianca is a large South American airline that operates flights throughout South America, as well as intercontinental connections. Other airlines such as TACA and Avianca El Salvador are now part of Avianca and operate under the Avianca name.

Avianca has introduced new fare classes in recent years, making baggage allowances a bit more complicated. Fares XS, S, and M normally do not include free checked bags, while fares L, XL, and XXL include 1 or 2 free bags, depending on your origin and destination. The XS fare also doesn’t include a carry-on bag, just one small personal item, and you’ll have to pay extra to bring a standard-size carry-on on that fare.
