Moving to Mumbai
So that happened.. For past 11 years there have been a few times when I almost moved out of Bangalore. “Almost”, like a flight that is on runway, not yet in the air.
But here I am, in Mumbai, homeless but not roofless or friendless and that’s what matters. So, I decided may be I should count my blessings and write about Mumbai.
When people think of Mumbai they think of BEST double deckers or may be the cool cabs. I think of autos. I am privileged enough to take autos but not to stay in town.
My first auto ride in city- I get in and then tell the driver where to go, we chat about Mumbai traffic and rentals. I get out, pay fare and get 3, yes three rupees change back. Just like that, the simple joy of taking an auto after the heartbreak of rejections and terror of negotiations for an auto ride in Bangalore.

Later in the day, 4 autos refuse to go to Andheri and I think beginners luck has run out. Then an auto guy stops and explains why he or so many others won’t go to Andheri. He also drops me to main road and gets me another ride! Blessed day!!
People speak Hindi (I don’t speak as much Hindi but I miss it all the same), I can read all the signs and there are vada pavs everywhere.
Traffic seems a little better, far less unruly and there are footpaths even with raging metro construction work!!
Now if only I could find a fantastic 1bhk in a nicer area without paying a bomb…!!
