While the most successful businesses solve a fundamental problem, it seems that many recent influential companies merely take something people can already do and make it slightly more convenient. Services like Uber and Lyft are an easier way of calling for a cab ride. Amazon is like a big online Walmart. Instacart allows your groceries to be delivered by a stranger. The smartphone arms race has produced better cameras and some other notable features, but the newer models are not fundamentally much different from the first iPhone or Blackberry.
