Is the government making Goa a coal hub?

From 5 to 26 million tonnes per annum, the NDA govt has planned a massive increase in import and transport of coal through Goa.

A 2-part series reported by me has been published in Scroll, describing the set of seemingly disconnected projects behind which this project is hidden, how the coal is largely meant for JSW’s steel plant in northern Karnataka, and how the government, including cabinet minister Nitin Gadkari, have bypassed environmental rules for some of these projects.

1) The sea breeze will bring more coal dust into Goa — if the government has its way
2) There’s pressure on environmental agencies to allow more coal to pass through Goa
