Day 1 & 2 (Stanford & 42 Code School)
So we have already heard a lot about the air of Silicon Valley. And here we are breathing the same air. It is certainly not about the air but about the people.
We happen to visit Silicon Valley under the Student Start-Up Exposure Program 2018 organized by the Government of Rajasthan to understand the start-up ecosystem. Also intending to bring the same culture of our state and country.
To ensure the same our first stop was Stanford University, one of the most talked about universities in the world. So, here are the things that moved me :
1. People are really very very focused, while they are working for one thing they are planning for the next.
2. They are ever willing to help you, believing in "WE GROW TOGETHER"
and some more...
The next day was planned for a cool school the "42 Code School" . It was guided tour by one the students there. Starting with the very first thing that held my attention was, what is 42 ? Why this number ? So, a coding related person would adhere more to the fact that 42 corresponds to " * " in ASCII table. And when we feed * into a query executor it lists all the files or records present and so is life "Everything". Everything there in the coding school has some or the other meaning to it, apart from coding. For instance, to complete the course at 42 one has to cross 21 levels. Now if we notice its half of 42 that means the school gives half of the knowledge and rest half you have to figure out yourself. Also the projects assigned are in a particular structure called "Galaxy", it constitutes all the projects that can be currently taken over by the students. One not so common feature of the is that the students teach other students and its peer-to-peer communication. Not only this the examinations are evaluated by the students and graded by them, which is something I never though would be a great way of learning. All in all a new dimension added to my brain cells.
