Intricacies of Human Relationships

How did we end up like this? In a city of millions, bustling, perky faces, how did we end up being so lonely and gloomy? You see faces everyday, regular faces, sometimes — funny, happy the other times, and at rush hours in a metro — dull too. Despite so many faces, how is it that we still don’t have a familiar face to talk to, to share ourselves to, to open up to, to connect to?

It is 12:18 AM, and here I am talking all about sadness and loneliness (Rumi hits you when you don’t care about the due assignments anymore). The Lunchbox — an excellent, and a remarkable movie defining the complexities of human relationships pierce you right through the heart. It leaves you awestruck, in wonder and in absolute endearment of beautiful friendships one may form with a stranger.

Isn’t it riveting, how we say “Don't talk to strangers”,” He might be dangerous”,” You don't know him, he is weird” and yet we know not even ourselves? Lunchbox deftly and charmingly defines the roles strangers play in our lives.

The scene that made me hit the pause button, and filled me up with thoughts to pour out, is this — Sheikh (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is an orphan who wants Saajan (Irrfan Khan) to not just be his Guardian but his whole family at his wedding. It is fascinating how people may not have a single person to share their life with, and are left craving for love and warmth and yet this affection, intimacy, connect comes in without knocking, from someone who they never expected or wanted from. The spellbinding relations aren’t just limited to sex, hookups, hi-hello but are much more dynamic, undefined and pristine, only one can imagine. They are a mix of love, affection, warmth, and acceptance.

“Life is strange…I think we forget things if we have no one to tell them to…”

Sometimes the wrong train will get you to the right station!

The whole movie was pure, soulful, and pinched my heart (am I being too emotional with all the crying, or you cried too?). Why do we have to be unkind, toxic, hateful, spiteful, harsh, mean, and inconsiderate, when we can just say hello to the sad old lady, compliment the pretty smile of the aunty, be kind-hearted, friendly and just smile!
