Why I’m not ‘brave’ for coming off antidepressants
Liz Smith

You touched upon a lot of interesting things here. One thing that makes me uncomfortable is the insistence on making people productive instead of helping them come to terms with their illness and finding the best way to live with it. There’s such a stigma against taking mental health leaves (like you’re just faking it, you should just buckle down and work harder, you need to “contribute to society, etc.) and too often, medication is prescribed without considering other options because it’s what will help you stay in the workforce. It’s sad that that’s how we’re valued. I’d love to see people being able to take more time to get to understand their own mental issues, through whatever means make sense to them, and from there figure out the best way to deal with them. Unfortunately that takes time, which is a luxury not all can afford.
