Part 40: Why Skype is so eerie?
Well, I had been using Skype for many years, but right before these moment, when Microsoft were bought Skype company. Like any other service provided by Microsoft, Skype had obtained some special abilities, such as:
— Wrangled interface, e.g. now you can login in three ways: via Skype account, via Microsoft account and via Facebook account. Of course, they all link to the same identity, but privileges provided by every service is different. For example, when trying to restore password for Skype in web-version, it refers to restoring password for Microsoft account (usability and logic details, by which Microsoft is known for). Due to this fact, when a hacker got your password — you can do nothing to protect your account, except emailing tech support (read about support in paragraph below). For another example, try to delete your Skype account (or just find such button in profile settings). Result is clear as sky.
— Indifferent tech support. Network is filled with stories about tech support dialogues ended with nothing (for users, of course). Try to restore password by support — and you will be asked for your account registration date and registration email (yeah, everyone know it’s registration month and year). No, seriously: here’s the proof on Russian IT-community called Habrahabr.
— Bugs. Bugs everywhere! No comments down here, you know stability of Microsoft software by yourself, but somewhen in 2014 had been found a special sequence of characters, that been sent to someone in Skype may cause terminating of whole application. And you couldn’t open Skype again till you delete messages database on your computer or send an another message to this user.
All those facts brought me to one possible decision: go away from Skype, with account left as haunted house — forgiven. Long live Telegram and etc!
