Draupadi Murmu was a tribal woman from Odisha who fought against the gender discrimination she faced and became the first tribal woman in India to become a college principal. She was born in a tribal family in a village called Ranibandh in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. Her father was a Subedar in the British Army. He deserted this post on getting transferred to Odisha and started farming.
She was an average student in school and was not very interested in academics. After completing her schooling, she got married to a man from her village. They had two children together.
She started working as a daily wage laborer to support her family. It was hard work, but she was determined to provide for her children. She also started attending evening classes to get her high school.
Her hard work and determination paid off. She eventually became the first woman from her village to get a college education. She went on to become a teacher and is now working to improve the education system in her village. Draupadi Murmu is an inspiration to women everywhere. She has shown that it is possible to overcome any obstacle and achieve success.
