Magento Trends 2018 — What went viral?

Magento acquired by Adobe

Leader in Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce

Magento made to the top in Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quadrant for e-commerce platforms. Magento shared its space in the leader quadrant with behemoths like Oracle, IBM, Salesforce, and SAP.

Magento’s approach in delivering the future needs of users and innovation spree were the major reasons for its recognition. Magento added several offerings that complement its commerce platforms like Order Management, Business Intelligence, social selling, B2B commerce, and CPQ. Read the full story here.

Magento — Akeneo partnership

Magento signed up Akeneo as a Premium Technology Partner in October 2018. Both open source and the cloud version of Akeneo will be compatible with Magento.

Magento’s eCommerce management provisions lacked product information management for a long time. Realizing this gap, Magento signed up with Akeneo, the PIM solution expert that is serving a long list of B2B and B2C brands in centralizing product data distribution and organizing product information clutter.

Magento 2019 roadmap

#1 Magento 2019 trend — Adobe’s AI and ML might improve Magento analytics

Adobe’s expertise in Artificial Intelligence and predictive analytics could shape up Magento as a more intelligent platform. While Magento already has launched in-depth analytical tools like Magento BI (Business Intelligence), adding Adobe’s AI and machine learning power would elevate its insight deriving capability to the next level.

#2 Magento 2019 trend — Magento’s user experience might be elevated

Adobe is known for its experience-driven CMS. Future updates of Magento might inherit Adobe’s rich experience-driven interfaces making the eCommerce platform more user-friendly.

#3 Magento 2019 trend — SMEs using Magento might get the Adobe advantage

Magento is now enjoying a wide range of customer base from SMEs to enterprise-level eCommerce brands. If Adobe integrates its Experience Cloud with Commerce, SMEs might be able to access Adobe’s other offerings like marketing, advertising and content creation.

On the other hand, enterprise customers who have been considering Magento for a while might plan to migrate sooner to benefit from Adobe’s offerings.

#4 Magento 2019 trend — Marketo’s B2B marketing engagement

Having discussed Adobe sharing its strengths with Magento, the eCommerce platform might also get the capabilities that Marketo can provide. Marketo is one of the market leaders for B2B marketing engagement which holds expertise in lead management and account-based marketing.

Connecting Marketo’s capabilities with Magento, the platform will provide a more holistic solution for B2B players by helping them align their marketing initiatives to achieve targeted revenue growth.

#5 Magento 2019 trend — Better connectivity with top marketplaces like Amazon, eBay

Magento is extending its marketplace connectivity to brands like eBay. It has rolled out a marketplace module for easy integration with Amazon. This module holds built-in pricing for products sold on Amazon.

Magento will be adding integration with other sought-after marketplace channels like eBay and Walmart in the year 2019.

#6 Magento 2019 trend — Omnichannel support- Online-offline connect

Omnichannel connect is the only missing piece in Magento’s commerce offering. In 2019, Magento would aim at providing support POS (point-of-sale) which will enable the platform users to connect their physical stores with their digital sales channels and establish a centralized control across multiple sales channels.

Wrapping it up

Magento, since it became independent in the year 2015 has seen an incremental change till now. In 2019, it would be interesting to see how Adobe’s credentials are leveraged to make a bigger impact on Magento.
