Pokemon Uh-Oh?

As I’m sure everyone knows, Nintendo has done it again with Pokemon GO. It uses your phone’s GPS services to locate and allow you to catch Pokemon. So you feel like a real life Pokemon trainer! Sounds cool, right? It is! And isn’t.

If you’ve been paying any attention to the news or media lately, Pokemon GO is everywhere. Unfortunately, it’s everywhere. Meaning people have been using the app during all hours of the day, no matter what they’re doing. Driving, specifically, seems to be an issue. It seems people playing the game are driving while playing, causing accidents or even pulling over onto the side of the highway to catch a Pokemon. Not okay. People seem to disregard safety when it comes to catching a Pikachu or Charizard, and I’m not sure Nintendo was really all that ready for this. When you first turn on the game, they warn you to always be aware of your surroundings, which almost feels like their way of saying, “Hey! We’re so not responsible if you get into a car wreck or get shot up in an alley because you didn’t pay attention to where you were going! Okay, have fun!” And of course, it’s not their fault if those things happen. But honestly, I’d like to know exactly how they planned to prevent horrible accidents other than just warning people to be careful.
Unfortunately, I saw this coming with Pokemon GO. It’s a great concept for a game that I admired so much as a child, and don’t get me wrong, I’ve been playing it myself. But for the people out there who are die hard fans, risking life and limb to catch their favorite Pokemon… I don’t think this is what Nintendo had in mind, guys. Let’s be a little more careful, shall we? Us geeks need to stick together!
