I’m Nicole, but you can call me Nikki. I’m 23 and I’m a student at Maryville University studying graphic design. Maryville is my third college, but I’ve known I wanted to be in this field since high school. It is September 2021, and it’s my last semester of college. After 5 and a half years, I am ready to graduate and start the rest of my career as a graphic designer.

You and I both are expecting really big things here. I’m starting my capstone project! I stressed over this class all summer (in a good way). Capstone to me is a sum of every class and experience I have learned in the last 5 years of college. I have taken a wide variety of classes, from micro and macro economics to publication design, but I have learned something from each and every class to apply to my life every day. I am proud of myself for sticking with this process and putting forth my best in every class and project I’ve completed.

I’m very excited to start my capstone project. It might be one of the last projects I will do as part of my curriculum, but it’s one of the first of many I will complete as a professional graphic designer. I am confident that I will be very proud of the result, as stressful and exciting as the process will be. I began thinking of ideas for my capstone project before I even enrolled in the class. I struggled a lot to think of any possibilities; I think I got caught up in finding the absolute best idea that I and the entire world would love. The reality is though, that I have the rest of my career to complete projects for other people. This is the last one I will be able to say I did for myself. When I thought about it that way, my mind started spinning, and I found an idea that I think myself and the world can be proud of.

I am excited to embark on this journey, and I hope you will be as excited to follow it with me. Here’s to the start of capstone! 🥂
