The Daily Ritual of Calm: How to Stay Grounded and Energized
This week, I was asked how I stay so calm and if I would share some methods that work for me. I had to reflect on this question. One of the core elements that help me keep my Zen is ensuring I take care of myself.
You can’t take care of others if you don’t care for yourself. Read that again!
There are a few things I try to do every day that allow me to stay calm and focused—top of the list is eight hours of sleep. Sleep is underrated, and pre-bed procrastination is a giant trap. Yes, I am guilty of checking my phone before I go to bed and watching YouTube videos way too late. Still, I sleep almost every night for 8+ hours. Not being tired is a superpower. I also take my time waking up, just lying still, and become aware that I am awake. Once I am awake, I start the day with a short routine. I ask myself:
- Am I well-rested?
- What is my main focus today?
- What is the most critical thing I need to get done today?
- How motivated do I feel today?
Checking in with myself helps me to understand what my underlying mood will be for the day. Giving my day some structure by thinking about what I will be spending my time on helps to reduce anxiety. Once I am clear about this, I will get my calendar in…
