Art explained

Art is a form of communication that goes beyond everyday communication methods, such as speaking, math, entertainment, etc. We, humans, are not so simple and we need to communicate in more abstract ways andnd art serves that need. It allows us to communicate everything which can not be communicated with formal communication methods.

Art also heavily depends on common understanding, exactly because it is abstract. For someone to understand art, they need to be able to feel what the artist wanted to communicate. The art audience can not see the message in the art unless that message is already known to them in some way. And, to make it more complicated, both artist and the audience do this often on an intuitive level.

It is always important to remember that, no matter how complicated and marginal it appears, art is one of the most important elements of our lives. And everyone experiences it, in their own way. Many times it is not labeled as art by the art establishment and art establishment itself does not recognize it.

Here is are few examples of artists and their messages. Hopefully you can recognize them when you experience their work:

  • Michelangelo — we can be even more free.
  • Van Gogh — not everyone sees the world in the same way.
  • Picasso — understanding is more important than being beautiful.
  • Wahol — everyone is important.
  • Marina Abramovic — relationships are dark but love wins over.
  • Ai Weiwei — we need to help each other.
