“Signs of freedom and heroism” — an international project dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the Russo-Turkish War
On March 1, 2017 from Varna began largest tour specially created exhibition featuring artists from Bulgaria, Russia and Romania
In 10 cities across the country will be presented by the end of year exhibition “Signs of freedom and heroism,” which marks the 140th anniversary of the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878 AD). The exhibition includes paintings, prints, photographs and documents. Getting viewers will see her in Varna on March 1 at the Archaeological Museum.
The project, which will continue its development and in 2018 with the presentation of the exhibition in Russia and Romania is carried out on the initiative of Nasko Yakimov (Publishing “Glory”), Valentin Pletnev (director of the Museum of Varna), historian and photographer Borislav Dryanovski Ivo Hadjimishev. Artists Nikolay Rusev (Bulgaria), Marina Varentsova — Ruseva (Bulgaria / Russia), Vyacheslav Babiyak (Russia), Alexander Varentsov (Russia) and Luisa Calla (Romania) participated with specially created paintings devoted to the events and personalities of the war. The selection of 30 photographs, facsimiles of documents and texts that will be exposed, is Borislav Dryanovski and Ivo Hadjimishev. Part of historical documents and photographs are little known.

The exhibition in Varna includes about 50 paintings, engravings, photographs and documents. Marina and Nikolai Rusevi working on little-known photographs and publications in the French press of late XIX century. Marina Varentsova-Ruseva involved with portraits of Russian generals and Emperor Alexander II, Nikolay Rusev — with battle scenes and portraits of wars. The pictures are sized between 200/300 cm. The largest and 120/80 cm. Youngest. The artist Vyacheslav Babiyak, a professor at the Russian State Pedagogical University “A. I. Herzen “in St. Petersburg. He participated in an engraving project dedicated to the Russian officers and generals.

The idea of the organizers of the project to cover two years of the course of hostilities to the liberation of Bulgaria. In 2017 the exhibition will be presented in the Regional Historical Museum in Burgas (6 April), Shumen (4 May), Stara Zagora (1 June), the Veliko Tarnovo (6 July) Vidin (3 August), Ruse (2 November) at the Military History Museum in Pleven (5 September) at the National History Museum in Sofia (5 October), and the Art gallery in Silistra in December. Throughout the exhibition will be complemented with new paintings devoted to the events that connected every Bulgarian town. In 2018, the exhibition will visit Romania and Russia, where they will join other invited artists.
