Pop-Ups That Work and Don’t Disturb? Yes, it’s possible.
There has been an ongoing debate around popups in the digital industry for a while now. While the age old conversion experts recommended it, the new age marketers are skeptical about it. Some think it is a great way to target their website visitors, but there are a few who think it ruins the user experience for the visitor.
(You could count me in that category)
Let’s be honest, this argument is valid. Getting interrupted by unrelated messages does spoil the experience a visitor might have with a business. When a generic message shows up to all the visitors as they enter a website, it is only obvious for them to ignore it. If they really want to view the content on your website, no matter what the offer, it is just going to get declined.

As one of the most influential marketer says:
“Anticipated, personal, and relevant advertising always does better than unsolicited junk.”

The meet…
That’s when I came across a guy at a client meet. He introduced me to some conversion optimization tactics and a bounce prevention technology, called Exit Bee. The technology focused on creating a non-intrusive way of using pop-ups.
Exit bee targets people right when they are about to leave the website by tracking their on-site behavior closely. It also helps you set up pop-up triggers based on the interaction they have with the website or an action that they complete. The technology enables personalization to the T and that’s what caught my attention!
That’s when I realised that pop-ups can actually work BRILLIANTLY when complemented with a kick-ass strategy!
The Testing Phase
So I started using the technology myself before I could recommend it to others or vouch for ‘pop-ups’ again. A few months down the line, I was really excited with all the possibilities the technology offered!
“Different strokes for different folks!”
I created multiple campaigns based on the on-site behaviour of my visitors. In simpler words, I could display different messages to different segments of my visitors.
For instance, when someone was about to abandon their shopping cart items, I could target them with a special cart abandonment campaign that offered them a discount if they completed the purchase. And someone who was leaving just after browsing through a specific category of products (say shoes), could be targeted with a special first time deal out of that category.
Endless possibilities. AWESOME technology. Period.
I have seen the results. And you could see them too, right here — Case studies.
Whenever I have used the technology on a business website — irrespective of the industry, I have seen a noticeable increase in the conversion rates, sales, leads — and of course, the very important, email list!
Come to think of it, why wouldn’t have this technology worked?
Remember the quote I reinstated by Seth Godin? Well, it just had to work!
The guy I met, is Pavlos Linos. He is the Founder of Exit Bee and now, a good friend. So I wrote this post as a sign of appreciation for the great product he has been working on. I highly recommend the technology to anyone who is looking at getting more results from their business website.
Look for your self @ www.exitbee.com and see the magic work yourself!
Ps. And if you know someone who should try out this technology, don’t forget to share the post with them.
