Japan is an incredibly safe country overall — but when crimes are committed, they can be particularly horrendous and many times strange. The story of Kabu Terauchi is exactly that — horrendous and strange. But not in the way that you would think. Kabu would lay out a plan to abduct a young girl while she was walking home from school. He didn’t have any weapons to threaten her, instead, he would use psychological tactics to get her to come with him, and stay with him for two whole years. His reason for the kidnapping will surprise you.

Who is Kabu Terauchi?

Growing up, Kabu was incredibly smart and could have had a really bright future ahead of him. But, as we hear about often with these cases, he was a bit of a loner and was bullied as a child. Of course, this is absolutely no excuse for what he would later go on to do as an adult, but we now know that bullying can have really serious effects on a child’s brain which is still developing, and it can contribute to their behaviour and actions as an adult.

Still — even though he didn’t have many friends or participate in social activities, he was a great student and showed time and again that he could really make a positive impact on this world. He could have grown up and contributed to society in a great way —…
