I’ve never shared anything that isn’t directly related to technology, but I thought it would be a good idea to share this since it can be applicable in so many different things (technology included).

I was at the gym the other day, and I saw an old friend of mine and he decided to tag along and do some of my workouts with me. When it came time for our core workout, I asked him, “What do you normally do for your core? I’ve been doing [insert complicated workouts which I can’t even describe here], and don’t really feel like…

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend my second hackathon: Hack The North. I decided to team up with a couple of friends I met this past year, at school. Both of these guys are extremely talented, and we decided to embark on a project that didn’t play well to my strong suites. Lets refer to them as Sam and Bob.

The Beginning

We decided to use Firebase as our backend; this made me wary — I’ve never been good at frontend development, so naturally, I’ve disliked it. For our hack, Sam would make a native iOS app and Bob…

I started working at Wattpad in May (of this year) and I still feel like I started yesterday – time really does fly when you’re having fun!

When first looking for an internship, I was looking for a company that had a good culture, awesome people, and an outstanding product. I thought that with these three, I would want to come to work everyday and have an environment that harbours learning. After all, I was going to be working at the same place for 16 months – I don’t know what I’d do if I had to spend that much…

For the longest time, I’ve felt that the introduction of AI will be a godsend for human civilization. I believe it will allow us to advance to new heights; computers can do certain things so much faster than a human can. On top of this, AI is just one of many applications of machine learning. An application like AI would be the ultimate (and coolest) thing, but there are already lots of new applications like data analytics, medical diagnosis, computer vision, etc.

This past weekend, I rewatched the the Matrix trilogy. I’ve only ever watched the first movie twice —…

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my very first hackathon hosted by my own school, University of Toronto. I thought I would share some of my thoughts on the experience.

The atmosphere

Having heard a lot about how unreal the atmosphere is, I went in with high expectations — around 500 hackers were expected and they would all be under one roof. I expected the atmosphere to be something like being in a gym with Dwayne Johnson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman and all of their friends.

Maybe it was my own fault for setting such high expectations, but I…

As the holiday season quickly approaches, I can finally say I’m done with all of my exams. Although I don’t really believe in exams and what they stand for (this is another topic completely) I still learned a lot in all of my courses. Apart from the actual content that was covered, I wanted to write about the things that people should remember to reflect on during and after their learning.

Operating Systems

Considered one of the core computer science courses, my first look at operating systems was better than I expected. From multi-threaded concurrency problems to an ext2 filesystem, I learned…

I’m currently taking a course called “The Digital Text” as an elective — it’s awesome. One of main discussions that we constantly talk about is the evolution of the classic book: is it better than something more interactive like iBooks? Obviously this is something that differs from person to person, as a book can be used for something more than just leisurely reading.

With that in mind, we first introduced iTunes U, interactive textbooks in the iBook format that are revolutionary(it’s italicized for the exact reason you think it is). They allow embedded media; this interactivity enhances the learning process.
