Not sure if I am responding in the right place to reply. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I am in Ireland so the Green Party debacle will largely pass people by here. I am going to draw someone’s attention to it though (this person did not totally dismiss my concerns, so all is not lost). I will also pass on links to your articles.
There is very little questioning of trans ideology in Ireland. This is probably mostly as the vast majority of people have no awareness of what is going on, and the few that do speak out get ignored, or blocked on twitter, and so on, so other people don’t hear the arguments.
Unfortunately, we already have self-identification laws here (which were sneaked in without public debate a few years ago, around the time of the same sex marriage referendum — in contrast, there was an active public debate on that topic. I only found out about this a few years later on Mumsnet).
There used to be only a tiny number of trans-identified people here, but there seems to be a growing movement now promoting gender ideology along with queer theory ideas, actively backed by the so-called socialist left (some of the demands are also backed by right-wing parties, and this helps them get legislation though without much, if any, opposition).
Currently Lawyers for choice are suggesting that in the new abortion legislation here: “ ‘Woman’ should be replaced with ‘pregnant person’ or ‘woman or pregnant person’”. I hope the government does not go with the sex-neutral pregnant person. Someone from the US told me they had come across some right-wing anti-abortionists who had been pushing for Sex-neutral language in abortion legislation, in order to try to give men a say in abortions.
Thanks again for your reply. It is nice to support one another in our efforts to do something about this issue and the potential havoc it will cause in our movements.
