Who doesn’t love ice cream? What if I told you there is a way to eat ice cream all day, even for breakfast, and stray trim and healthy? Sounds like a gimmick, I know, but it’s true. If you’re tuned into the Instagram universe, you have likely seen “nicecream” — ice cream made out of bananas. That’s right, this magical fruit takes on a creamy and delicious soft serve-like consistency when frozen and processed in a powerful blender. The concept is easy enough, but you have to know how to do it right to get the perfect consistency. …

A dozen things I learned over the past year.

Exactly a year ago, I left my comfortable existence in Cambridge, Massachusetts to embark on a year-long travel adventure for my dissertation research. My first stop was Paris, then Tel Aviv, and finally Los Angeles. In retrospect, I suppose it was a bit like my version of “Eat, Pray, Love”, but if I had to choose verbs to describe the dominant feeling I had in each place, I would probably choose “Escape, Despair, and Renew.”

To be clear, it wasn’t so much the places that evoked these emotions, but instead the point at which I was in my own life…

Seven steps to a healthier and kinder way of life.

This summer marks my three-year “Veganiversary”. People often ask me why I became vegan. While I had been vegetarian since high school, it was never a central part of my identity. It wasn’t until grad school, when I had a sort of quarter life crisis, that…

Health is clearly reflected in the vibrance and vitality of our skin, hair, nails, and so on. Beauty, then, is on the inside, but it also comes through on the outside via how we treat our body.

The best thing you can do to be your most beautiful self on the outside is to start on the inside. Minimize refined and animal-based foods and consume organic fruits and vegetables. The more you choose…

Dealing with the inevitable ups-and-downs of life using the ancient Buddhist meditation technique.

I have been “failing” at meditation for over a decade. I first discovered meditation at 17, when I began to experiment with alternative life approaches, including yoga, vegetarianism, and spirituality. For a while I questioned my Atheist upbringing and entertained theories such as “reincarnation” and “karma”, but then reverted back to a non-spiritual life while in grad school. Plus, I felt like I was bad at it, since try as I might, I could not find a way to “empty” my mind. It was only last year, while going through a heart-wrenching breakup, that I realized on a visceral level…
