On early November 2019, me and my friends decided to go to Thailand. Our main destination was actualy Chiang Mai. But since all of us have never been to Thailand before, we thought it would be necessary to plan a visit to the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok. We then decided to take a plane from Jakarta to Bangkok and spent a day there before we continue our way by sleeper train to Chiang Mai. For our 1 day in Bangkok, we chose to spent our day by visiting Chatuchak Weekend Market and it turned out as one of our best decision.

So, why you should go to Chatuchak Weekend Market?

1. Cheap stuff

As you may have heard about Chatuchak Weekend Market, this market sell many stuff with very cheap price. I don’t know where else you can find cute woman sandals for $ 2. I mean I could feel like billionaire walking there with $ 150. I could literally buy many stuff for myself and also souvenirs for my family and friends at home.

If you like to shop, this market is definitely must-visit place for you.

2. Variety of the product

It is definitely not overstated if you say you can buy anything you need in this market. You can find clothes, bags, sandals, socks, books, garden tools, medicine, food streets, handicraft or even pets.

So, if you plan to go in groups, you don’t have to worry if anyone will get bored in Chatuchak. I can guarantee that anybody will get what they need (or simply want, lol).

3. Street Foods

Eating street foods is actual a must-thing-to-do when you travel to Bangkok and of course you can meet a lot of variety of street foods in Chatuchak Weekend Market. You can try a lot of fried snack, healthy fruits (include also the famous mango sticky rice), coconut ice cream or even a weird Bangkok Fried Insect.

If you want to spend full day in the market, you also don’t have to worry about your lunch. Not only snack, there are also lots of stall selling noodles, tom yam, chicken rice and other lunch.

4. Well-organized

Even though this market is very huge, but you can shop efficiently since they categorized the shop good enough so that you don’t have to go around the market just looking for something you need. You can easily check on the internet for chatuchak weekend market map and you will see which category you want to visit then just go to the place.

But even if you have the map, I am not suggesting you to go separate from your group because the market is so big and so similar so it will be very hard to find your meeting point.

5. Cleanliness

As one of the developing countries, I thought Thailand market will be like Traditional market here in Indonesia in which most of them full of mud. But not this market. I even can use my white sneakers around the market and they still look fine. Even not every shop has their trash bin, but I think the customers is well-educated to understand to not litter everywhere.

So, with all the points mentioned above, If you have free time on the weekend and plan to shop do come and enjoy Chatuchak Weekend Market. One very important tip for your little adventure in the market: Do not forget to bargain! Good Luck!
