Share A Dell U3417W Monitor Between Two Computers

This post describes how to set up a Dell U3417W monitor to be used by two computers.

I am particular about input devices: natural keyboard, magic trackpad etc, and I use multiple computers, so I usually use a KVM switch to share the I/O devices (keyboard, monitor, headset) among two or more computers.
