Thanks for your feedback, and let me see if I can phrase that a bit better. For now, allow me to elaborate: the sense of feeling special might remain present if you never consider the possibility that you might just be a big fish in a small pond instead. To elaborate on a more personal level, I used to think I was a crazy l33t programmer in high school (small pond). Once I enrolled into university however (larger pond), I got to meet some of my peers and professors. Needless to say, that was a humbling experience that allowed me to understand just how average I was at that point. This is basically captured by the expression of being a big fish in a small pond. Knowing that I wasn’t special basically fuelled my desire to improve.
