Facebook’s Parse shutdown has a lesson to all tech customers
Pauli Olavi Ojala

This is an excellent view on the transient nature of most BaaS/SaaS.

When I developed my first app back in 2013, StackMob was my chosen backend. I never got round to releasing it on the App Store because it was acquired by PayPal a year later (amongst other constraints).

Now that I’m concluding my thesis on iOS frameworks & technologies, I was going to use Parse as the backend to my app. Unfortunately, now I’ll have to look elsewhere.

For many frontend devs such as myself, owning the entire stack is ideal, but simply not feasible. Firebase is a good alternative, but I fear their pricing plans may be a little too steep for me.
