It’s a very important issue you highlight, crucial to the growth of not just the tech industry, but as a society as a whole; case in point, the “comprehensive health app” you mentioned. Happy to report, my wife is just beginning to learn to code, as am I. My goal is to learn well enough that in the near future I can teach women and other minorities (especially those who may have English language issues) to learn to code.
