8 great women-centric podcasts to listen to in 2017

The podcast world is overwhelmingly filled with so. many. dudes. The majority of podcasts are helmed by male hosts and have mostly male guests. Once in a while they might have a lone token female guest join the show, but overall, the makeup of most podcasts remains largely white guys talking to other white guys.

So, in 2016 I sought out women-centric podcasts to add to my daily routine — shows that are hosted by women and cater to female audiences. Here are 8 of the lady-hosted podcasts I’ve loved listening to in 2016 and would recommend to anyone looking to add more women to their podcast diet in 2017.

1. Stuff Mom Never Told You: Hosted by Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin, this podcast goes in-depth on all the topics you never knew you needed to know more about: the history of women’s marches, the real cost of fast fashion, the history of IUDs, and more.
2. Call Your Girlfriend: Odds are you probably already listen to this podcast, hosted by Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow, who describe the podcast as “for long distance besties everywhere.” It was one of the first podcasts I heard that was really tailored for an audience of women, and covers everything from pop culture to politics, both highbrow and lowbrow.
3. The Ladycast: Hosted by Alex Laughlin of the Washington Post, this podcasts interviews interesting and inspiring women about their career journeys.
4. Lady Problems: This podcast from MTV is hosted by three great women writers, Rachel Handler, Teo Bugbee, and Hazel Cills, and they discuss how women are treated in pop culture, from film to TV to music and occasionally politics.
5. Girl Friday: Daily Beast editor and former Jezebel-er Erin Gloria Ryan gets a group of women in media together each week to talk media, culture, life, and just shooting the shit.
6. Another Round: Buzzfeed’s Tracy Clayton and Heben Nigatu talk about race, gender, culture, politics, and lots of other things. And they have amazing guests, from Janet Mock to
7. What Would a Feminist Do: The Guardian’s Jessica Valenti hosts this podcast that covers politics and culture from a feminist perspective. Especially in the Trump era, this feels more necessary than ever.
8. The Broad Experience: I love that host Ashley Milne Tyte focuses this podcast on women and the workplace. Tyte invites women guests to join her in discussing topics like burnout, female relationships at work, being a working woman without kids, and more.
