On to Nahargarh Fort

Even before our journey to Jaipur began, we were already curious and thrilled to visit this trio of the excellent forts. Therefore, on our first day of sightseeing in Jaipur, we began with a check out of Amer fort, followed by Nahargarh and Jaigarh forts. We completed a lovely trip of Amer fort by noon, and after that proceeded to Nahargarh fort next. It takes around 30 minutes to reach Nahargarh fort from Amer fort when you are plying by a car, many of the road being a steady uphill drive.

Though, the roadway is not very broad. Hardly two cars can pass by at the same time, one from either side. But the day we were going to Nahargarh fort, there was some town fare en route. As an outcome there were many individuals on the road and that made it even narrower. And a little difficult to ply as well. Nevertheless, we reached Nahargarh fort in 30–35 minutes.

So, we are confident one can reach here in a maximum of half an hour from Amer fort. On the method from Amer fort to Nahargarh fort, there comes a diversion. If you take the other route bifurcating from this diversion, you will reach Jaigarh fort. There is a board to indicate the exact same. Nevertheless, our taxi driver decided to take us first to the Nahargarh fort, and we were thankful of his decision later. Keep reading to know why.

The comfortable food court

By the time we completed our trip of Amer fort, it was almost lunch time. Nevertheless, we didn’t see many alternatives around for food. So, we decided to go to Nahargarh fort and have lunch here. However, we didn’t know exactly what type of food alternatives we will be offered at Nahargarh fort. By the time we got to Nahargarh fort, it was afternoon and we were exceptionally hungry by now. So, we chose to first have food then proceed to explore the fort. So, our fist task was to find out if there was a location available to have lunch and if so, where was it situated. As luck would have it, as we parked our automobile and moved towards the fort, we found a huge banner with tasty food photos and “food court” printed on it. Instantly, (and sheepishly filled with happiness!!) we headed in the instructions revealed.

Open sitting and ambiance

Following the instructions leads to a yard just before the primary fort entryway. This little courtyard has been perfectly converted into a food court. There are little food stalls on three sides of the courtyard, serving Indian, continental and European foods. While on the fourth side of the courtyard, flooring cushions are put on the verandah for a relaxing sitting While, in the centre of the yard, chairs and tables are placed for those who would choose dining on the table.

Don’t anticipate an AC dining establishment or anything. It is quite down to earth which is what we enjoyed about it’s setup. There are fans put on the floorings along with connected to the walls of the verandah. I am uncertain if they are able to provide the respite from heat in the summer season months. But, the monsoon month of September when we went to here, they were soothing enough. Outdoors, the chairs were positioned below thick trees, in the shade. Once again, may not be a practical choice in the peak summertime season or during the mid noon time. But by the time we arrived here, even they looked cool enough to inject. However, exhausted and tired, we were immediately tempted to go to the verandah.

The flooring sitting

We delightedly transferred to the flooring sitting on the verandah of the food court. Our toddler had dropped off to sleep while on our method from Amer fort. We chose to let her enjoy her sleep on one of the cushion — beds while we enjoyed our food unwinded on the others. Although the food was nothing excellent taste smart, we were so hungry, we got to stretch our legs and unwind while having the food and our young child could sleep in peace. Together, it made the location extra unique for us. Prior to leaving, we got a hamburger loaded to feed our infant in the future. Even I had a hamburger. It was performed in an Indian style. Fresh bun toasted in butter. And a newly made potato patty added inside it. Overall, it was quiet satisfying for our hungry souls.

History of the Nahargarh Fort

After finishing food and getting refreshed, we began on our quest of Nahargarh fort. Nahargarh fort was constructed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734. Later some extensions were added in the nineteenth century to additional strengthen the fort. The fort was built as a military center in addition to a relaxing abode to the Maharaja. According to history, this fort never ever came under attack. But it did tremendously increase the toughness of the kingdom of Amer. Because, from here, the Amer fort could be better secured. During the military mutiny of 1857, numerous British families, consisting of females and children, were protected in this fort for their defense.

Inside the Nahargarh Fort

A set of stairs result in the primary door of Nahargarh fort. However, many of the locations are now near public and a smaller sized part of the fort is available for visitors. We got in through the primary gate, marveling it’s robustness. Afterwards, we arrived in a courtyard surrounded by rooms on all sides. From this yard, numerous doors result in entryway in different sections of the fort. The doors are all named after Gods. The spaces are embellished with the particular intrinsic paintings, similar to other forts and palaces of Rajasthan. The doors and windows of this fort are decorated with colored class, in several color. This goes together with the paintings on the roofs and doors of the fort.

Each section has a flight of high stairs that would take one to the upper flooring. Upon reaching the leading flooring, one gets a spectacular view of the city of Jaipur spread beyond in the valley. On the other end, one can see the stretch of the fort itself, with interweaved courtyards and roofings spread across a huge stretch. From here, one can get a peek of the other parts of the fort, which are otherwise not open to the general public.

Intriguing truths about Nahargarh Fort

Unlike Amber fort, Nahargarh fort is much smaller sized and doesn’t have too lots of spaces. However it’s rather a really robust fort with lots of interesting realities weaving around its architecture and history. Here are some to interest you:

The legend behind the name

It is stated that when Nahargarh fort was being built, its building and construction needed to be stopped numerous times. Throughout the day the building would go efficiently, but the majority of what was constructed over the day would get destroyed by the night. As if, some hidden power lagged the demolish. Nobody might explain why this was taking place. When this kept happening over an amount of time, the Maharaja consulted his priests and the conclusion drawn was that the spirit of departed prince Nahar Singh was obstructing the building and construction.

To pacify the spirit, the fort was called after him as ‘Nahargarh Fort’. (And you may have questioned whats in a name!!). A little fortress was also developed inside the fort, and devoted to Nahar Singh (Maybe his spirit was pacified after transferring to its own personal quarters). Overall, the story is peaceful fascinating.

The unconquered fort

Nahargarh fort was never ever connected. Hence, it stays the only unconquered fort of Mewar area. Considering that there was no intrusion ever, the field guns at this strategic fort were entirely unused. Thus, they were put to using time indication. In sync with the time spotting tool at Jantar Mantar, these field weapons were fired to indicate the time of the day, up until 1944. Even the robust forts of Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh saw a number of attacks however Nahargarh fort remains the only unconquered.

The Great Walls

Great, robust walls are a quality of the forts of Mewar and Amer. Nevertheless, upon arriving of Nahargarh fort, one can see the robust walls playing around the fort in all directions. Even more down, they sign up with the walls of Jaigarh fort, almost forming a circle around the lower Amber fort. When you get to see the walls in full view, you recognize the strategic value and brilliance of the forts’ architecture. The walls run everywhere along the slope of the hill. They are walkable. And they even have stairs along the inclines. In the ancient times, when the fort was inhabited, the soldiers should have patrolled over these big walls day in and day out, keeping a watch at the approaching opponents.

Lovely sundown

Nahargarh fort is the very best location to enjoy a view of the sunset across the city of Jaipur. The view is just sensational. Set down on top of the hill, it makes a perfect background for taking pleasure in the beauty of nature. Although we could not stay here all the method till the sunset. We extremely much desire to have. Next time, we will.
