A Star

When I was young, my mom told me, “You’re my star and you are very special!” Since then I believed that I was a star, that shines like a diamond and is very special. Time passed, and I grew up only to realize that I was not the only one, I was not the only star in the galaxy. There was an infinite number of stars- maybe billions and I got lost. I begin to doubt myself, but I could never forget what my mom told me.
While trying to figure out, I began observing them and I found out that each of them was different from the other. Some of them shined brighter and some of them didn’t. However, they were all moving in a single direction. I could see the difference that they were not in the same position as they were yesterday and the day before. They all had a purpose and were heading in some direction. In a way, they were all competing to reach that goal.
Some of them even fell on the earth. Maybe they got tired and gave up. I saw that some of them were always together and some were isolated. Some of them were only there when the moon was there but some of them were still twinkling when the sun came up. I questioned myself, where am I? Which one am I?
One day out of nowhere I found what I was looking for.
I am the one that shines the brightest, I am the Sirius A.
All stars are special. They have their own unique features, their own color and sparkle that can only be seen by specific kind from the specific distance. Sirius A shines the brightest, but when observed from the Earth. There are 7 more planets and a whole galaxy to observe from.
We are all so busy with our lives these days, chasing to get that job, degree, promotion, house, person, etc. We have forgotten to appreciate what we already have in life, forgot to have dinner together, laugh and share a few words together. Life has been a competition… it has been a lot of “what ifs” and “what people might say”. We have forgotten our own values, instead, we are hearing and dealing with a lot of stress, depression, anxiety, every day. People should be hanging out together and having fun instead of putting their faces against digital screens and wishing they had something which they don’t and in fact, which they don’t need.
We should all put our pens down for a second — oops! phones/ laptops down for a second and think if you are happy and satisfied with the way of your life. Because that’s important. Being happy is important. Feeling special is important.
So, you must believe that you are Sirius A and you shine the brightest. No one can take away that sparkle because that energy comes within you. All moms tell their children that they are special, and moms are always right.
You are special.
