The Xps13 has a beautiful screen (very close to a Retina). Also the T460s screen is quite good. Depending on the distribution your text will already look good (Ubuntu does it out of the box).

Never had an issue with the trackpad either. This might very well come down to the Linux distro you were using. Even my dev who runs Arch Linux on the Xps13 has no problem with the screen and trackpad.

I also think getting the right hardware matters. Before going with the T460s I was looking into System76 hardware.
