Reimagining Fantasy Cricket 🏏 in India with CricPlay
For the last couple of months, we’ve been working on a cricket fantasy app. We as a team had a deadline of 6 weeks to design, develop and publish the app on play store.
While the deadline was super tight, we had to trim down some cool features and interactions we had planned for our end-users. Nonetheless, we worked our asses off 7 days a week for the coming 1 and a half month and successfully published CricPlay on Google Play store.
In just 2 weeks of the launch, Google featured CricPlay as editor’s choice app in its “5 Apps to Enjoy a Pitch-Perfect Cricket Season” category.
There are many fantasy cricket apps out there, what makes CricPlay unique?
Though there are plenty of fantasy sports apps out there in the market with huge number of downloads and DAUs but none of them is built keeping a user’s ease and needs in mind.
Problems with current apps:
- Tough Onboarding
- Poor usability
- Unpleasant user interface
- Pay real money to play (NOT FREE)
- Intrusive Interstitial and native ads at random places.
On the other hand CricPlay has a NO BULL SH*T design approach. A user sees what they want to see and not what we want them to see.
CricPlay is FREE TO PLAY and ADS-FREE.
CricPlay users come from different professions, age groups and regions of the country but they all have one thing in common and that’s their love and passion for cricket. Below is a representation of typical CricPlay users.
Creating an account on CricPlay is as easy as 1–2–3. You just need a working mobile number and you are good to go.
Why use mobile number as a sole method for signup?
You must be thinking there are many one tap signup and login solutions out there such as Google login or Facebook login which can also help to omit second and third step as the username can be extracted from user’s google or facebook account.
That’s a valid point, but most users hesitate while signing up using facebook or google accounts because the fact of receiving spam emails or getting something undesired posted on their facebook profile by some random app intimidates them.
Also, the mobile number helps users to redeem their prize money directly into their patytm account hence, can be used as a one stop solution for signing up.
Raising the bar for the entire industry
Typical fantasy sports have a certain user behaviour where a user creates a fantasy team, submits it and only comes back to the app to see the leaderboard that’s it.
CricPlay introduced new additions to the fantasy app segment such as Daily predictions, Real Time score updates and a full match score card to make the user experience much more intuitive and improve the on screen time.
With real time score updates users don’t have to switch to a different app to see the match score and switch back to CricPlay to see their fantasy score fluctuation anymore. Both can be observed within the same app.
We launched CriPlay in April 2018 and in this 8 months of span we are about to hit the 1 million downloads mark on Play Store.
If you want to experience CricPlay you can get it from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cricplay (Only available on the Indian Play Store)
We would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on how we can improve and make the user experience more intuitive. Thanks!
