Our Story: How we built afnity.com in 3 months without any technical experience.
Afnity is a short form vertical or square video platform and community for online shoppers. Place to upload and share…www.afnity.com
We don’t have a lot of money, We don’t have technical expertise, We don’t have a business model. All we had is a team of three, with clear goal and dreaming for future
All of us doesn’t have prior technical experience, but it took three months for us to build a vertical video sharing platform for Ecommerce industry. Three months back we are all in confusion, but soon we realized development should happen based on the problem, not based on solutions. So we trusted these principles and followed blindly.
Learn while you go! -
You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water. We started with whatever the knowledge we have, asked several questions in StackOverflow and learned from the mistakes we are making on daily.
OPOS — One problem one solution.
We drafted a big list of features to develop the app, but soon we realized our company will die, by the time we built all these features. We focused on one problem to solve. The problem we were seen is that most of the products in the Ecommerce industry doesn’t have explanatory videos. YouTube has millions of videos but there is no proper classification on fake vs Original, Relevant vs. non-relevant, expertise vs non-expertise. Why the hell I should watch 10’s of videos to know how to lace shoe or how to tie a tie.
We decided to build a simple platform for the online retailers and shoppers to host their videos with proper classification. We hold all the additional feature for future implementation.
Small Batch flow:
Rome was not built in a single day. It takes time, sometimes years to master a skill. We understood this very early and started laying bricks every day. We divided the complete application into multiple components and started working on developing complete application into small batches. It reduces our cycle time and improved efficiency. We do have the time to test on daily on behalf waiting for full version.
80/20 Rule: 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes
This principle applies to every dimension in our daily activities, We focused more of on 20% of activities which yields 80% of productivity. This formula is the key role in our success, every day we do have a list of tasks to do and we prioritize the work as per this. Most of the time we focused on working 20% of the task by eliminating 80% of less productive tasks
We are ordinary people but we can build extraordinary product one day ………..
