  • Always remember Respect your elders
  • Why do we give respect?

Since we are born, we are taught one thing, Respect your elders, they are older than you.

We respect our parents because they gave us birth, without them we should not have been here. They fulfill our needs, educate us, feed us, love us, nurture us.

We respect our teachers, because after our parents they educate us and without education we cannot take a simple step.

We respect our elders because they are elder than us and have more experience.

  • Now Coming to the main point, Don't we respect most of our elders for the fact because we are ought to do so or are nudged for it and are forced or we are gonna be judged if we don't do so?

Respect the ones who really deserve respect not because they merely are our elders.

  • Can we really respect the parents who are physically or mentally abusive?
  • Can we really respect those parents who left us intentionally for their other love interest?
  • Can we respect those teachers of us who physically or mentally abuse us and also torture us by giving peer pressure?
  • Can we respect those elders or relatives who always judge us, compare us with their son/daughter or compare us with those intelligent and force us to follow their ways?
  • Do we love all our elders? Do we like all their ways or how they behave?
  • Can we respect those who harass or sexually abuse us even if they are adults?

The Answer is definitely NO.

Now Coming to people whom we don't know personally.

  • How many of us don't respect swami Vivekananda or APJ Abdul Kalam?
  • How many of us don't respect Rabindra Nath Tagore?
  • How many of us don't respect Mother Teresa?

Do we know them personally? NO

But they are respected for their deeds not for their age.

Now coming to the commoners. Will we not respect the person who helps us in our life in one way or other? Will we not respect the person who saves us from harassment or abuse? Will we not respect a person who teaches us something in our life or restores our faith in humanity? Sometimes even coolies, bus drivers, postman, servants, army men, and even small children deserve to be respected.

Respect those who deserves respect, those whose deeds are worth respect. Yes our parents, teachers and elders also should be respected unless they do something disrespectful. Don't respect someone whom we not like forcefully or because of the fear of being judged.

Respect is earned. Not given. Respect deeds, not age.
