Dear Friend, I’m so glad you said no.

A Love Letter

Dear Friend,

We could have gotten together the other day — visited a new restaurant, laughed, had great conversation — but instead, you said no.

You had something important to do, something that takes great concentrated effort, something that requires your careful attention. It is the work that you are here for. It is part of your master plan, your life purpose. And in the end, I know — that what you make will be a beautiful thing. A thing that will benefit many people.

I am so glad — so glad — you said no. I am so glad you stayed loyal to your heart.

By saying no, you said yes to yourself. And you also gave to me an opportunity, a chance to look at what I am doing.

I ask myself: What is most important? If I have the time, in this short life, to dedicate myself to something, what would that be?

Because you said no, dear friend, you showed me a finer way of listening to my heart. The day-to-day desires — like coffee, and chats, and cheesecake (although that does sound good) — fly away in an instant, like butterflies visiting a spring bloom.
