In the UK, we’re sadly accustomed to hearing how libraries are obsolete in the age of ebooks and the Internet, even though they do much more than house printed volumes

I really disagree with this perspective. In New York and Toronto, (the latter where I live) even in an age of digital downloads and e-books, the usage of libraries has been rising year after year. Part of this has to do with programming (eg. Our reference library has free language classes on occasion). Part of this has to do with libraries providing a third space seperate from home and work.

This man on Humans of New York does a great job if explaining why he believes libraries won’t go extinct.
