Analyzing S3 and Cloudfront
A fun tool for analyzing your S3 usage
Currently we use Amazon as our backend infrastructure for a set of sites, and every month we review our bill, analyzing server usage, bandwidth etc. One of my gripes with Amazon’s console is that for Cloudfront, S3 and EC2 bandwidth, stats are limited and Cloudwatch isn’t all that helpful.
Amazon suggests turning on logging, but the raw data that Amazon provides isn’t helpful without any analysis. Fortunately, webalizer and other stat programs are powerful enough to process these logs and make pretty information out of them.
Doing this manually would’ve required spinning up an EC2 instance, setting up webalizer and parsing all the logs manually. Fortunately, S3Stat is a SAAS software that helps abstract all this. We’ve been running the trial for a few weeks and have only positive things to say about it.
