A very interesting subject. I look forward to hearing how this system was adapted for the Post-colonial world of India. Much of it sounds like Jim Crow (and the new Jim Crow where prisons are now the new form of slavery) in America. And as we all know, such systems usually don’t change over night.
I have to ask: how does all this play into both the class/caste aspect already playing out in India. And how does it play into the famines caused by British rule?
